Behind The Business
Steven D. Ayres
As
the oldest real estate company in Douglas County, Georgia,
we have witnessed many changes over the past forty-two
years, some good and some terrific! We were there when
I-20 West was on the drawing board and only old back
roads could take you to the big city of Atlanta.
We started in a tiny office on the
west side of our present building in about 1960 in the
small community of Lithia Springs. Once a resort town,
noted for our "Lithium" mineral water, we
left a lot of history behind us, and moved into the
middle of the 20th century.

Today
we are located in the eastern portion of a thriving, west
metro county of the greater Atlanta area. Boasting a major
regional mall, known as Arbor Place Mall, and countless
new businesses and homes, as we continue to grow to a
population of almost 100,000. We have one of the metro
areas best water supplies in the protected Dog River basin.
We also enjoy the wilderness pleasures of Sweetwater Creek
State Park, only 18 miles from downtown Atlanta.
Initially founded by Blanche and "Bill"
T. G. Ayres, Ayres Realty Co. soon brought in their son,
Steve, who worked a three year apprenticeship before earning
his broker's license and soon taking over the company
leadership. After four years at Emory University, earning
a BBA degree, and completing one year of law school, he
was ready to tackle the business world. At age 25 he had
gained the respect of his fellow business peers when he
was elected President of the Douglas County Chamber of
Commerce and a few years later as President of the West
Georgia Board of Realtors.
Today, Steve is still the designated
principal broker, after 32 years in the business and is
still at the helm. While his parents, are still active,
they have assumed a retired role in their personal lives.
Steve's wife, Beth, is also a broker in the real estate
business, and as a team, they have put together many real
estate deals over their almost 25 years of marriage, including
three grown children.
Over the years, the company has been involved with a wide
variety of real estate matters, including the developing
of mobile home parks, an aviation community, industrial
parks, numerous commercial properties, residential remodeling,
sales, brokerage and leases, and the buying and selling
of thousands of acres of land.
Many things continue to keep us busy
including the hobbies of flying, music, art, photography,
history, reading, traveling and a thousand other things!
And real estate!
